Poem by Anne Felsheim

My mother in law is a very talented and creative poetry writer. Almost every year for Christmas she takes time to write one to send to her family. Thought I would share this year's poem with you.

Who Knew?
Baby Jesus, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, in a manger lay.
Who knew His birth that very night would bring a brand-new day?
Who knew this infant, Jesus, sent by God above,
Would be the Savior of the world, proving God’s perfect love?
The first to know was God Himself; it was His chosen plan.
He’d send His Son, His only one, for the salvation of Man.
The next was the angel Gabriel, he was the one God sent
To tell Mary the virgin her part in this world-changing event.
He told her about Jesus, that she would be His mother.
God trusted her to do this job and He would choose no other.

Joseph was betrothed to Mary, and Joseph also knew
And wondered, in his position, what now should he do?
An angel settled his dilemma, appearing in a dream,
And said to him, “Don’t worry, Joseph, things are not as they seem.“
This Child was conceived by the Holy Ghost; Jesus shall be His name.
“God is sending Him to heal the world, to rescue from sin and shame.”

The night of that wondrous birth, another angel came.
He spoke to shepherds in the field; his message was the same:
“Fear not,” he said, “I bring to you glad tidings of great joy.
“Look in the manger yonder, and you’ll find a baby boy;
“He’s the Savior—-Christ the Lord-~God’s gift to ALL mankind.”
He’s here for everyone: from elegant to unrefined.

The heavenly host, who also knew, burst forth in joyful singing,
“Glory to God in the highest!” their voices jubilantly ringing.
As the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds rushed to see
Joseph, Mary and Jesus, the holy family.
And they were so excited they spread the word around
Of all they had seen that night, and the baby they had found!

Those who heard their story marveled at what they saw,
The miracle of Jesus’ birth filling all hearts with awe.
Down through the ages, the story repeatedly was told,
The Good News of Jesus, touching the young and the old.
Today it still continues, wherever God’s people go,
Telling of Jesus, they ask themselves, “Who’l1 be the next to know?”
Luke 1:26-38; 2:1—2O; Matt.1:18-21
